Welcome to EuroGEOSS, the European approach to GEOSS!

More on EuroGEOSS

  • New approach to improve the integration of earth observation data
    [Date: 2013-05-21]

[...The EuroGEOSS Brokering Framework has been so successful that it has now been formally adopted by the GEO. 'The amount of data resources thus available through GEOSS has increased by two orders of magnitude, from a few hundred to several million.'
The project supports the global environmental research effort, and thus benefits European citizens directly. 'We need to work together to understand how environmental changes affect society and how society, in its turn, affects the environment. The environment does not stop at our national or EU boundaries but is a truly global phenomenon' With support from EuroGEOSS, researchers believe GEOSS has now become a more powerful means in improving scientific understanding of the complex mechanisms driving global environmental change….]

  • Untangling the science Web    -[Date: 2012-03-23]
[...Remarking on EUROGEOSS, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn said: 'I am delighted to see this truly remarkable achievement by an EU-funded project which is revolutionising the way we can access and use Earth observation data for the benefit of society.'….]

EGU 2013 Vienna 7-12 April 2013.

9th January is the last day to submit abstracts  for the next EGU conference.

The Division of Earth and Space Science Informatics (ESSI) offers you more than 20 sessions this year. Please send your short abstracts to one or more of these symposia thereby contributing to the success of the EGU General Assembly and of ESSI Community.

You may submit an abstract  here

Seasons' greetings from EuroGEOSS scientific Coordinator:

"EuroGEOSS has had a lasting impact on many activities at national EUropean and global levels. This was again recognized at the GEO Plenary in Brazil last November.

It was a great pleasure working with you all, and I hope we will create new opportunities in the future to work together again. My very best wishes to you all."

FOCUS on EuroGEOSS Broker and JRC activities with 2 articles  written in collaboration with EuroGEOSS partners :

  1. Remote Sensing Emerges as an Important Tool for Habitat and Species Conservation
  2. EuroGEOSS Broker: Finding Common Ground for Earth Sciences

Grégoire Dubois from JRC, presented the Digital Observatory for Protected Areas (DOPA)” and relationship with EuroGEOSS at the "Planet under Pressure 2012 Conference in London (March 26-26,2012), more information here.

EuroGEOSS web seminar  on Biodiversity is on Wed. April 4th at 16:00 CET (GMT+2)
“Setting up web services for biodiversity: the case of the Digital Observatory for Protected Areas (DOPA)”, will be presented by Grégoire Dubois  and Michael Schultz from JRC.        More details here

Watch out!  Focus on EuroGEOSS outputs and the Broker .
In "A new tool to help monitor the environment", the brokering approach and leading role in GEOSS  is exposed. Read more  (“The Institute”- IEEE members’ newsletter).

EuroGEOSS web seminar  on Drought -

“ Assessing the capability of multi-scale drought datasets to quantify drought severity and to identify drought impacts" by Sergio Vicente Serrano, will soon be available online.

"EuroGEOSS, Advancing the vision for GEOSS" conference held in Madrid, Spain  from Jan 24-27, 2012, was very successful. Feedback from the participants (around  200 attendees), keynotes and presenters was very positive and all agreed on EuroGEOSS major contribution to inject new life into GEOSS and support to the System of Systems approach.

The video describes the role of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) Common Infrastructure in supporting policy and research related to biodiversity. It shows an example of using global data and models available on the web to identify unique habitats in Africa in need of protection. With highlights on the role of EuroGEOSS broker and a focus on the brokering approach.
